Librarians defend the Freedom of Expression from armed government agents.

This post is a spoiler-free comment about the Library Wars: Wings of Revolution movie (2012). For those who do not know, Library Wars is a franchise that takes place in a near future in which the central government has claimed the right to “improve society” through book-burning. Libraries, being creatures of the regional or local governments, resist the censorship campaign, which leads to armed struggle between the two sides.

Idols fighting the police with laser swords? This is only the beginning.

In a future where fabulousness is outlawed, who will fight for our right to entertainment? AKB0048, that’s who. AKB0048 are the spiritual successors to J-Pop sensation AKB48. AKB0048 is also the name of the last series to air of the Spring 2012 anime season. This is a Science Fiction series in which idol band AKB0048 fights against government prohibitions forbidding entertainment. Our perspective is that of some young fans, who are inspired by the groups fabulousness, and seek to join them. This adds a helping dose of tween rebellion that fits the basic theme of fighting for the Freedom of Expression quite well.

I usually don’t report news here, but I am very excited that a Library War (Toshokan Sensou) movie has been announced. It is going to open in June 2012, and the name is Library War: The Wings of Revolution. I really hope this encourages someone to release the 2008 TV series here in America. (I WANT!)
