Batch Update: Tiger and Bunny 19, Kamisama no Memo-chou 5, Cardfight Vanguard 30, Mawaru Penguin Drum 5
August 8, 2011
I’m having an Internet service disruption, so I have to post this at the town library. Consequently I don’t have a lot of time to mull over these posts and am submitting comments for Tiger and Bunny 19, Kamisama no Memo-chou 5, Cardfight Vanguard 30, Mawaru Penguin Drum 5 all together. Read on for random musings about life, giant rodents, and more.
Tiger & Bunny
Kotetsu’s inability to deal with his problems directly drives Bunny away. Unfortunately Bunny seeks solace from Mr. Maverick, and our worst suspicions are realized.
Kamisama no Memo-chou (God’s Notebook)
The creature on the left of the screenshot above is referred to as a Tapir, which I had never heard of before, but I have seen anime references to a “dream eater” with accompanying images that look like that (including in Cardfight! Vanguard), so I assume this business about capybaras is also well-known Japanese folklore. That made me wonder what a capybara really is. Well, it turns out to be the world’s largest rodent. I didn’t find confirmation of the folklore of it eating sadness, but I found some other strange things. For example, here is a video of a Capybara enjoying a hot spring:
Here’s a video of a Capybara being punched in the nose by a tiny Monkey:
Cardfight! Vanguard
This was the episode that delivered Kai’s fight against a member of the Foo Fighters. I didn’t think he would lose, but they did a decent job of keeping the suspense up until the end. I’m anticipating Misaki losing her match next week, which means the pressure is on for Aichi to win, else Team Q4 has no chance of qualifying for the second day of the Nationals.
Mawaru Penguin Drum
Another interesting episode full of weird stuff, some strange hints, and a tiny bit of progression. Everything else aside, Shou takes a chance to get the diary from Ringo, with all sorts of consequences. First, we get a hint from Ringo that she isn’t writing in the diary at all, just living it out. When she doesn’t believe Shou that the hat is an alien life form, she and Shou are whisked to the transformation world. This is the first time we have seen anyone other than Shou and Kamba taken there, and Ringo provides an unexpected spectacle, breaking free of the manacles, and ripping the hat off of Himari’s head. She throws it into the street and Himari dies.
This leads to an action sequence, in which Shou, then Kamba, chase the hat which has been snagged on a fast-moving truck.
I can’t even begin to speculate about what might have happened in the hospital with paintball girl. Although there wasn’t a clear explanation of anything, Ringo’s witnessing of the strange behavior of the hat might make her more willing to cooperate with the brothers. Of course, this being Mawaru Penguin Drum, who knows what new twists await us next week?
Summation
In short, this weekend was fun, because there was some fun anime to watch, even if I have to download it while sitting outside of the public library (they are closed on the weekends, but they leave the wireless network on). Hopefully I’ll have a functioning Internet connection again before too long. Posts will be infrequent until then. So long, and watch some good anime!

My goodness, those capybaras are incredible. Thank you for that. Best of luck with your internet.

Thanks. I’m hoping it will get straightened out soon, because it is a hassle.
And yeah, I’m glad I looked up those capybara vids. They make them look like pretty mellow creatures.

Ouch, that’s a hell of a situation to blog with. I hope your connection gets sorted out as soon as possible!
Yeah, this was a pretty interesting week for the shows I’ve been watching. I’m pretty excited that T&B is going into its endgame and that Penguindrum just let Ringo into the loop and got a bit stranger to boot.

Yeah, it’s a pain.
PenguinDrum is such a strong show. I was already hooked (from the start), but they just gave indications that things are getting much more complicated. I’m looking forward to seeing how everything turns out.

Ouch, posting from a library eh? I’ve actually experienced the same, only difference being that the library blocked out my blog due to the https protocol. Had to go through the hassle of dealing with proxies, etc.
Anyways, hope your situation gets resolved soon.
Back to anime. I hope Kotetsu gets his act together soon, because he’s really messing up big time. As for penguindrum, well, at least we know that Ringo will become more heavily involved from here on out. Shame there’s no Penguindrum ep this week.

Unfortunately it is not resolved yet. I’m doing alright for blocking, but the bandwidth sucks while the Library is open, and when it is closed, I have to sit outside (not so fun in the rain).
Yes to both of your comments. I hope Kotetsu does the right thing by his daughter, and to top it off, he made a bad situation worse for Barnaby. Not good. Also, no PenguinDrum = Not Good (must have PenguinDrum to survive).

Oh, I thought for a while that you were watching anime, uploading screenshots, and the like on a library computer… which would be rather… brave of you 😛
I have to say, you have an interesting taste in… capybara videos. It’s hard not to laugh when you scroll down an anime post and find a sentence “Here’s a video of a Capybara being punched in the nose by a tiny Monkey”…

I was downloading videos and uploading screenshots (and writing blog posts) on the library NETWORK (my own laptop), and let me tell you it WAS painful.
Let’s face it, it isn’t every day you see a video of a capybara being punched by a tiny monkey. It is a good video for giving you a sense of how big the capybara is. That monkey was really small in comparison. It also is a good indicator of just how hostile our close relatives are. I don’t think that capybara did anything to deserve the face punch.

Wow, look at the http://thesaurus.com/ home page – it highlights the capybara! Is this because of you?
August 18, 2011 at 7:58 pm
Heh, heh. I’ld like to believe that I have that much influence. Funny thing is that when you look up “capybara” in the thesaurus there ain’t nothin’ there!

Kotetsu’s inability to deal with his problems directly drives Bunny away. Unfortunately Bunny seeks solace from Mr. Maverick, and our worst suspicions are realized.
Well, I guess that rules out an inkling of mine that Bunny was some kind of robot with a malfunctioning memory that his ‘parents’ built!
Another interesting episode full of weird stuff…
Oh man, this show! Enjoyed the fairytale references and the dressing down that Ringo got from powered-up Himari. I still don’t know what to make of it yet, but, until more mysteries are revealed, guess everyone can enjoy the ride and the symbols dropping like anvils, lol.

Bunny as a robot would be an AWESOME twist!
Yeah, there is still a long ride ahead in Penguin Drum, so I don’t expect it to get easy any time soon.
