Cardfight Vanguard 25 – Misaki gets her groove back

July 5, 2011

Oh, Kai, you are such an unhelpful ass.

Cardfight! Vanguard episode 25. With Misaki troubled, the boys on Team Q4 prove useless. Fortunately Emi, aided by the healing power of Vanguard, reminds Misaki of why she fights.

We get to see some brand new cards, including "Dark Cat", AKA Kuroneko-chan.

Misaki gets roped into a match with Emi using constructed decks, so they can see how some new cards work. In the process, Misaki realizes that, despite the painful memories, Vanguard card-fighting is fun, and it ties her to the parents she lost as a young child. Rather than throw away the good along with the bad memories, Misaki chooses to fight, and she rejoins Team Q4.

Happy memories.

Although it wasn’t the greatest episode, I really do give the producers credit for trying something more serious with this mini-arc. Interestingly, it takes the same spot, roughly, as the last attempt at something more serious, the series beginning, where Aichi undergoes character growth and makes friends. Taken together this adds a sub-theme to the series, something about the healing power of playing cards, or perhaps better described, the importance of not hiding in your room, alone with your depression. Instead grab a deck of cards and meet some people, they could become your friends, and you might learn things about yourself that you never knew.

She’s got a heart of gold, that’s why she is able to reach out and remind Misaki of what would be lost in abandoning the cards forever.
