Kaiji Season 2 episode 8 – pay out
May 26, 2011
Episode 8 is the payoff to the buildup that started almost at the very beginning of the season, so I won’t belabor it. Still, it was great to see people throwing cans and bottles at Ohtsuki. He really rubbed me the wrong way ever since he was introduced. Seeing him try to weasel out of the thrashing he deserved was starting to get me worked up again, but you gotta let Kaiji settle things in his own way.

Loved this episode! Great payoff, especially since the first few episodes were so depressing – what an emotional roller coaster this series is. It felt great seeing Kaiji own Ohtsuki so hard here.
Who knew a game of dice could be so intense?

That is the amazing thing about Kaiji. There is some excellent storytelling. You really get caught up in something that all comes down to something kind of dumb, like little cubes spinning in a bowl. Somehow, with all of the psychological agonizing the game turns into a morality play, and the battle to win becomes the battle for the human spirit. If Ohtsuki had somehow come back in this episode, I don’t know how I could have handled it.

Bleh, I was thinking, for a while, that Ohtsuki would try to claim that Kaiji switched the dices when he grabbed the bowl – would have gotten me more than riled up.
Anyway, I concur with above – seeing Ohtsuki getting what he deserves is fucking awesome.

Yeah, I was a little worried about that as well. Not to mention they almost pried the dice out of his hands. -_-;
