Ookami-san 10: heaven together with fire

September 3, 2010

Ookami-san can't be honest with herself.

Heaven together with fire: the image of Fellowship with Men. The I Ching tells us that

Men bound in fellowship first weep and lament, but afterward they laugh. After great struggles they succeed in meeting.

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi episode 10 only shows the weeping and lamenting phase, as various members of the Otogi bank are kidnapped by the delinquents from Onigashima High School. With their forces divided, the Otogi bank looks all but conquered, but I’m not worried, because it looks like we are heading into the final showdown.

Alice is ambushed by Onigashima delinquents.

Several of the anime I have been watching seem to have abandoned telling a story in a forth-right manner to explore all sorts of side adventures. Of course we have a name for such episodes: filler. Why filler is needed in a show consisting of 13 or so episodes is beyond me. I obviously am not the only one who prefers to see the bigger plot developed, as Hanners said, “If only the whole show could have focused on this bigger picture”.

Ryoushi is actually in a more ambiguous situation. He is technically under attack, and he is definitely not aware of what is going on, as his friends (and his beloved Ryouko) are kidnapped, but his opponent is Puss-in-Boots, which is a good thing … probably.

Maid on a stake-out. Wait, what?

Anyways, the Otogi bank falls to the old “divide and conquer” trick, which is fairly impressive, given that they were on the look-out for some sort of attack from the start of the episode.

Don't worry, Ryouko, you and your fellows will be re-united, and afterward you will laugh.

Lol, I thought the same thing for Nekomiya nya~ being Puss-in-Boots. Dunno what significance his appearance be but hopefully Ryoushi would wise up and take up on his nemesis head on.

After all the one off stories it was kind of refreshing to see something like this done. That’s not to say that the previous episodes were bad though, they served to better develop and introduce characters who still managed to appear in this episode.

And Ryoushi being trained by Nekomiya/Puss-in-Boots should be a good thing, that is if he’s doing it to help him get his “princess”. Especially after what happened to Ryoushi the last time he went to Onigashima.
